How To Show Proof of Images?

I created a couple of images using a program similar to PhotoShop and I would like to know what I can do to show proof of ownership of the images, just in case someone decides to steal the image and claim it to be there image. Can I add a little copyright symbol in the image and my initials? Tips and examples would be great. Thanks in advance!
