If a car was brought for me and registered in my name does the buyer have any rights of ownership?

My friends ex husband is threatening court action to recover money from a sale of a car which he brought for his then wife it was registered in his wifes name so does he have a leg to stand on as I see it the legal owner of the car is the registered keeper not the person whom purchased it.
