Photosynthesis A-level Question?
In the first stage of photosynthesis in light dependent reaction, the chlorophyll pigment capture the solar energy of the sun and convert it into chemical energy, in the form of ATP and NADPH. The Calvin Cycle or the Light Independent Stage is called so only because they are driven by products of light, ATP and NADPH. It doesnt mean that the Light Indepent reactions occur in the dark or do not require light. They use the byproducts of light to convert carbon dioxide and water into a glucose.Water is split into hydrogen and water using the energy from the light dependent reaction. These reactions are also known as carbon fixation.
